Summer 2014
We are already having lots of fun this summer! Last week kicked off our FREE summer reading program, Some Bunny To Read To, which allows children to sign up to read to registered and certified therapy rabbits thanks to our animal therapy team members from F5RS. The bunnies are "all ears" and provide the perfect opportunity for nonjudgmental summer reading practice. The kids just love these cute and furry friends! Monday will be the start of our Lively Letters program. PreK, K, or older struggling readers in this program will be taught phonemic awareness and beginning decoding skills in a fun, multisensory way using colorful characters, stories, music, and pneumonic gestures and cues. Art therapist Brittany (Spaulding) Yost will be starting Summer Art groups in July. She is adding one for older children as well! The Toddler Group for 2-5 year-olds introduces young children to different types or art media such as drawing, painting, sculpting, crafting, and more! The Kids Group for ages 6-10 will work with various media as well and will provide the social benefits of group art, as well as processing experiences and emotions. Summer speech schedules have filled up very quickly! If anyone still needs services for the summer, call now! I am enjoying working with a very diverse caseload of children including language delays, articulation, apraxia, autism, stuttering, cochlear implants, and more! Summer occupational therapy is also available through Occupational Sensations to practice those fine motor skills for handwriting come fall or to help with sensory processing to improve self-regulation, especially during the less structured summer months! Did you know that we now offer daytime and evening yoga classes, too?! We are very excited to offer some stress relief for busy parents and any interested adults, and we hope to add children's classes in the near future! Certified yoga teacher Erin Hoffman can be contacted for more information. Wishing everyone a safe and fun summer!
